The hardest part of scientific writing for me is to craft a good story

The hardest part of scientific writing for me is to craft a good story. Prof. Engelward did such a good in job in emphasizing the importance of DNA damage and she tackled it from many different perspectives. But when it came to writing it down in the data summary, it’s a bit challenging to write an impactful background and motivation that can capture the audience why this research matters. I think in science communication it really boils down to asking why this is important, and I find that to write a coherent background, it’s good to start from the figures first. It feels like drawing a bullseye after the dart was thrown, but I guess that’s just how scientific writing is done in general. In mod1 I wrote mostly everything in bullet points. And doing that was a good practice to keep in mind the key ideas that I wanted to convey. This was a good exercise before writing everything in paragraph form in mod2.
