Time is flying...

Time is going so fast!

It’s crazy to think that more than a month has passed since junior year started. I feel like it’s only been a couple days. During this time, all of us have survived a data summary, survived the experiments in Mod1, and partially survived a 20.320 exam.

Out of all these things, I want to particularly talk about the data summary. I learned so much in science communication. I had only analyzed fake data from my classes but statistically analyzing my real data was new to me. I had seen so many figures in my life but I did not realize how different it was to actually create one and make it effective. Figures had to both be aesthetically pleasing and capture the results in an easy to understand way. I also learned that it was important to make sure to understand the implications of the research and how it could lead to future experiments to further explore the area.

I found the hardest part of the data summary to be tying everything together in a clear and concise way. I think this is the most important step as it looks at the research in the bigger picture. Because I like to focus on the small details, it was difficult for me to communicate the bigger picture in how each result contributed to the main question. Another thing I found difficult was being concise. I was often unsure if I was effectively redundant or just plain redundant. I was also often so attached to what I wrote that I found it difficult to cut out certain unnecessary parts.

All in all, time is definitely going fast! The research article for Mod2 will be here before we know it and hopefully, I can take what I learned and apply it here. Trying to be as concise as possible without losing the relevant information will be extremely important in the figures, abstract, and everything else in the research article.
